Brigandine Abyss Class Change: How Units Upgrade
What the developers state
The official system page describes class change in one sentence: when a unit reaches a certain level, it may be able to change its class, and with it both leaders and monsters can grow stronger.
Three things follow from that wording, and all three matter:
- It is level-gated, not item-gated or story-gated. The threshold is what you are working toward when you grind a unit.
- “May be able to” — not every unit at the threshold has a change available. Some classes branch, some do not.
- Monsters change class too. This is not a leader-only upgrade path; the creatures in a squad have their own progression.
An achievement marks the first one: “Awaken, flames of darkness!!” unlocks when you perform your first class change. Another, “Pinnacle…of skill.”, is tied to raising a skill’s level to maximum, and “This! This is the ultimate power!!” to raising a unit’s level to maximum — the level ceiling is a real destination, not a soft cap.
What players have demonstrated
There is no published class tree. What follows comes from gameplay clips posted after the 26 August 2026 launch, and it is listed as sightings rather than as a complete map:
| Starting class | Shown changing into | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sister | Priestess | The change is credited with unlocking an area heal. |
| Kunoichi | Ninja | Demonstrated on Momone of Samura Village, who starts as a Kunoichi. |
| Lady of War | Lady of War ★★★ | Saya reaching a three-star version of her starting class. |
| Queen’s Guardian | Queen’s Guardian ★★ | A two-star upgrade shown early in a campaign. |
| Dragon | Ice Sugaar | A dragon monster becoming an ice-element form. |
| Not stated | Archfiend | A demon-line change arriving with a new skill set. |
Two patterns are visible even in this small sample. Star grades exist within a class — the ★★ and ★★★ versions of a starting class are themselves class changes, not separate jobs. And some changes swap a unit’s element, which links class change directly to the elemental advantage system: an ice form is a different matchup chart from the base dragon.
Planning class changes
- Level the units you intend to keep. Since the gate is a level threshold, spreading experience thinly across the roster delays every change at once. The Organization Phase lets idle leaders earn experience through Explorations rather than only through battle.
- Watch what a change does to element. A unit that changes into an elemental form has new strong and weak matchups. Equipment can also bestow elements, so the two systems stack.
- Do not plan around a tree that has not been published. If a source shows you a full class chart for this game, ask where the numbers came from. This site lists the 28 starting classes the official character pages state, and the changes above that players have actually shown.
